Please allow me to introduce myself…

I’m a woman of wealth, er health, and taste

I’m not the devil, so you don’t need to have sympathy for me. I’m a writer and a singer. Pleased to meet you, no need to guess my name. Just call me Suz.

I’ve got a day job as a marketing copywriter for a pharmaceutical advertising agency, because at this point, neither of my more creative pursuits is supporting me in the style to which I’ve become accustomed. (I’m only a little high maintenance.) They’re passions for sure, and I don’t know what I’d do without them. But they’re not how I make my living, and that’s cool. They provide for me in other ways.

The nature of my game

I’ve been on Medium for nearly 7 years, where I mostly write poetry and personal essays, along with the occasional humor piece. I’ve been writing poetry since my mid-twenties. Something about the rhythm and the rhyme of words feeds my soul. In my early forties I started writing songs and song lyrics as well, and I’m still at it. (I’ll stop mentioning my age now.) Anything can inspire me…an epic sunset or a broken heart or an exhilarating moment of joy. It all gets channeled into rhythmic verse that’s cathartic for me and that I hope will enlighten or inspire others.

In my non-fiction, memoir-style essays, I share my personal experience and observations of life, and try to make them relatable. I weave in humor as well because facing what comes our way with humor is the only way, right? At home I write regularly in a journal, where I can be self-indulgent and process things that are happening in my life. I doubt anyone would care to read all that. But on Medium I try to write with others in mind, about things we’ve all experienced as humans on this beautiful, absurd, imperfect planet.

I’ve connected with some wonderful writers through this platform as well, and look forward to discovering more. Cheers!
